Since our recent meeting, the kapai group have been working hard reimagining a suite of mandarin language learning products that celebrate:
- Community building and the ī-ahikā 80:20 digital share model for allowing excess digital wealth to be transferred back into physical communities
- Digital pedagogies including: direct instruction; phonics; 24/7 monthly learning schedules; the ī-awhi approach to intergenerational knowledge transfer
- Digital technologies including: mobile first classrooms; community knowledge bases; content creating code; Artificial Intelligence; and blockchain
- Local, regional and global communities of language learning in mandarin (regionally circa 4+ million New Zealanders to 40+ million Pacific Peoples)
Our point of difference with language learning is enabling access to audio content. This ensures all learners are scaffolded safely forward by hearing, seeing, saying words and phrases - at their own pace, in their own place.
We recommend deploying a 12 hour quantum of coherent, contextual, contiguous, curriculum aligned self-paced learning experiences (circa 1,000 unique words and 500 common conversational phrases click here for example word list).
This is equivalent to 24 to 60 hours of learning effort per learner.
Over a 6 week project, for NZ$30,000 (incl GST), the kapai group can co-design and deliver to every smart phone, smart device and web browser, a 12 hour suite of curated, hand-crafted audio visual mandarin language learning experiences.
Ballpark costs
- $12,000 for tracking app for iOS + android devices
- $9,000 for 180x 8 card cardsets (circa 1,500 words/phrases)
- $6,000 for 180x 8 phrase fluency drills (click for 1,500 word mp3)
- $1,500 to map cardsets, vocabulary and phrases to NCEA quals
- $1,500 for 24/7 monthly schedule of learning content
Given the technology and educational content we already have to hand and have recently deployed, we view this as sufficient timeframe and funding.
We are now looking for production partners to get this suite of learning products ready for Chinese Language Week, 22 - 28 September, 2024.
